Christmas Concert Presented by the Lamèque International Baroque Music Festival

Four Choirs Join Forces In A Fundraising Concert

Lamèque, NB, November 17, 2014:   The Lamèque International Baroque Music Festival is happy to announce the presentation of a Christmas Fundraising Concert, on Saturday, December 13, 2014, at 8:00 p.m., at the Saint-Jean-Baptiste and Saint-Joseph Church, in Tracadie.   La Mission Saint-Charles, the festival's official choir, will share the stage with the Chorale Sormany of Lamèque, Chorale LaFrance of Tracadie and Vocal Ensemble Douce Harmonie of Caraquet.

The choirs will each take a turn on stage to present a selection of their most beautiful Christmas Carols.  To end the concert in a grand finale display, all four choirs will join together - close to 75 singers - to present a few pieces.  The program will feature a selection of well-known traditional carols, such as Adeste Fideles and Angels we Have Heard on High, as well as works by classical composers such as Handel, Berlioz and Mendelssohn.

This is the fifth consecutive year the Festival organizes this activity which is becoming a nice tradition of the Holidays.  The concert, which was presented in Caraquet, Shippagan and Lamèque in the past, is held this year in Tracadie.   "We are very happy to count on the participation of local choirs from the Acadian Peninsula in addition to the official choir of the Festival” said Jean-René Noël, president of the Festival Board of directors.  "It is a clear sign that the community really supports the Festival.  I invite young and old alike to attend the concert of December 13th.   We wanted the event to be family oriented, so this is why admission is free for children 12 and under accompanied by an adult."

La Mission Saint-Charles Choir will be under the direction of its usual conductor, Mr. Pierre Lavoie.  As for the  Chorale Sormany, the group will be under the direction of Mr. Pierre McGraw, the Chorale LaFrance under the direction of Mrs. Janie Losier and Vocal Ensemble Douce Harmonie under the direction of Mrs. Émé Lacroix.

Tickets, all at $15, are available from choir members and at the door the evening of the concert.  They are also on sale at the Lamèque Convenience Store (Dépanneur Lamèque), the Pélagie Bookstores in Shippagan and Caraquet, and Dépanneur CM in Tracadie.  For additional information and tickets, dial 344-3261.
