Finalists of the Mathieu Duguay Early Music Competition Announced


Three young musicians will have the chance to perform in Lamèque accompanied by the Mission Saint-Charles Orchestra

Lamèque, N. B., Monday, May 4, 2015:  The Lamèque International Baroque Music Festival is announcing today the finalists of the second Mathieu Duguay Early Music Competition. 

Three young emerging musicians were chosen by a pre-selection jury comprised of Francis Colpron (flautist and artistic director of Les Boréades), Hank Knox (harpsichordist, conductor and professor at McGill University) and Susie Napper (cellist, violist and artistic co-director of the Montreal Baroque Festival). "There's a lot of talent among young musicians and we will be happy to welcome these three finalists in Lamèque this summer," said Vincent Lauzer, artistic director of the Festival. 

The three finalists are:

Odéi Bilodeau, soprano, a graduate of the Montreal Conservatory of Music;

Alexa Raine-Wright, baroque flute, a graduate of McGill University;

Dylan Sauerwald, harpsichord, a graduate of McGill University. 

The three finalists will perform works by Antonio Vivaldi, Johann Joachim Quantz and Carl Philip Emmanuel Bach in the opening concert of the Lamèque International Baroque Music Festival, presented on July 23, 2015, at 8:00 p.m., at Sainte-Cécile Church, in Petite-Rivière-de-l’Île.  They will be accompanied by the Mission Saint-Charles Orchestra under the direction of renowned harpsichordist Luc Beauséjour. 

The three finalists will share over $3,000 in prizes. The jury of the competition, consisting of Luc Beauséjour, Mathieu Duguay, Suzie LeBlanc, Hélène Plouffe and Ivars Taurins, will award three prizes. The Festival audience will also have the chance to actively participate by voting for the award of the Public Prize. 

The festival "L’été musical de Barachois" and the Montreal Baroque Festival will each offer a recital to one of the finalists for the summer of 2016. 

The 40th season of the Lamèque International Baroque Music Festival will be presented from July 23 – 25, 2015.  Details of the program are available on the Website (www.festivalbaroque.com) and tickets are on sale.
