Online meetings and discussions to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the Lamèque International Baroque Music Festival


Lamèque, N.B., Wednesday, July 14, 2021: The Lamèque International Baroque Music Festival is proud to announce five online discussions and meetings that will complete its 2021 program, which will premiere from July 22 to 24. "We are very pleased to be able to offer our audience members the opportunity to meet the artists of this 45th season. We have always made a point of encouraging discussions between listeners and musicians.  It is a pleasure to be able to present these virtual events this summer," said the Festival's artistic director, recorder player Vincent Lauzer. Two series will be presented, both in the form of discussions on the Zoom platform.

“MEETING” SERIES

This series of meetings of approximately 45 minutes will allow you to learn more about the history of the Festival and its work in promoting the works of today's composers.

Composing for Early Instruments

Thursday, July 22, 11:30 a.m.

Since the rediscovery of early music in the 20th century, many composers have written new works for early instruments in an entirely new musical language. This virtual meeting will discuss the importance of writing for early instruments today, the process of composing and creating, and will feature artists who have been involved in creating works for the Lamèque International Baroque Music Festival in recent years.

Saturday, July 24, 11:30 a.m.

In the company of Mathieu Duguay, founder of the Festival, soprano Nathalie Paulin and flutist Claire Guimond, relive the most memorable moments of the Festival since its inception. Come share with us your highlights and wishes for the future of our event, the oldest Festival dedicated to Baroque music in the country.

“DISCUSSION” SERIES

Three post-concert discussions that will provide an opportunity to meet the artists and share impressions following the viewing of the Festival's three major concerts.

Johann Sebastian Bach's Sonatas for Obbligato Harpsichord

Thursday, July 22, 7:45 p.m. (immediately following the concert)

A discussion presented following the first major concert of the Festival that will provide an opportunity to learn more about the work of the man considered to be the most important composer of the Baroque era and the work of the musicians in preparing such a concert.

A Persian Celebration

Friday, July 23, 7:45 p.m. (immediately following the concert)

A discussion following the "A Persian Celebration” concert in which the two harpsichordists will talk about the music of composer Jean-Philippe Rameau that they transcribed for two harpsichords. Loris and Clément will talk to us live from France where the concert was recorded.

Come and continue the journey that takes us to Latin America with two artists who participated in the Festival's third major concert. A great opportunity to discuss with inspired and inspiring musicians to conclude the 45th edition of the Lamèque International Baroque Music Festival.
