"Partons la mer est belle": a grand opening concert depicting our country

Lamèque, N. B., Friday, July 14, 2017: The Lamèque International Baroque Music Festival will present a grand opening concert entitled "Partons la mer est belle," on Thursday, July 27, 2017, with Acadian soprano Pascale Beaudin and Ensemble Caprice.

According to the artistic director of the Festival, Vincent Lauzer, it was perfectly appropriate this year to include a concert depicting our country and celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Canadian Confederation. "The early explorers came to Canada by the sea, and this region has been influenced in many ways by the bodies of water surrounding it. Hence the idea of presenting a concert entitled "Partons la mer est belle" after one of the most famous Acadian folk songs" said Lauzer. "Even today, the sea is an integral part of life for many Acadians. The sea and its storms inspired several key composers of the Baroque period to write Water Music suites and numerous opera arias. This concert will also feature the world premiere of Lamèque-born Acadian composer Frédéric Chiasson's arrangements of Acadian folk songs for soprano and baroque orchestra," continued Lauzer.

The concert "Partons la mer est belle" will be presented at 7:30 p.m., on Thursday, July 27, 2017, at the Sainte-Cécile Church in Petite-Rivière-de-l'Île. Acadian soprano Pascale Beaudin will be accompanied by Ensemble Caprice, a 14-musician baroque orchestra from Montreal, under the direction of Matthias Maute. The concert program includes vocal and instrumental works by Georg Friedrich Händel, Georg Philipp Telemann, Antonio Vivaldi and Acadian folk songs. The presentation of this concert is made possible by the Community Fund for Canada's 150th, a partnership between the Fondation communautaire de la Péninsule acadienne, the Government of Canada, the Mission Saint-Charles Foundation and UNI Coopération financière.

The 42nd season of the Lamèque International Baroque Music Festival is presented from July 27 – 29, 2017. Details of the program are available on the Website at www.festivalbaroque.com and tickets are on sale.
