The celebration of baroque music begins in less than a week on the Acadian coast

 A program “Off the Beaten Path” for the 44th season of the Lamèque International Baroque Music Festival  

Lamèque, N. B., Thursday, July 18, 2019:  The 44th season of the Lamèque International Baroque Music Festival will begin in just under a week, on July 25, 2019.  According to Vincent Lauzer, artistic director of the Festival, this year's program offers seven concerts, including a free concert, a pre-concert conference and a rehearsal open to the public.  “This year is marked by the presentation of the Mathieu Duguay Early Music Competition, which welcomes three young emerging musicians” he said.  “We invite everyone to join us for this grand celebration of baroque music on the Acadian coast.”

MATHIEU DUGUAY EARLY MUSIC COMPETITION
Trumpeter Duncan Campbell (Canada), violinist Marie Nadeau-Tremblay (Canada) and harpsichordist Jonathan Salamon (United States) are the three finalists in the Competition. They will share more than $6,500 in prizes. During the two rounds of the Competition, members of the public will be invited to vote for their favourite candidate. 

First round: Recitals by the finalists
Thursday, July 25, 2019, 2 p.m.
Notre-Dame-des-Flots Church, Lamèque
For this first event, each finalist will present a short recital for their instrument and basso continuo: a golden opportunity to discover young talents in an intimate concert.

Final Round
Friday, July 26, 2019, 7:30 p.m.
Sainte-Cécile Church, Petite-Rivière-de-l'Île
During this concert, the three finalists will showcase their talents in mastering their instrument by performing concertos and vocal works with baroque orchestra. They will be accompanied by the Mission Saint-Charles Mission under the direction of Hank Knox. The prizes will be awarded at the end of this very moving evening.

FREE CONCERT
"An Italian morning"
Friday, July 26, 2019, 10 a.m.
Notre-Dame-des-Flots Church, Lamèque
Free admission
In this relaxed concert, recorder player Vincent Lauzer, cellist Camille Paquette-Roy and harpist Sara Lackie invite music lovers of all ages to the roads of 17th century Italy.  Refreshments will be served outside after the concert.

TWO EVENTS “DISCOVERIES”
Pre-concert conference and public rehearsal - Grandiose Telemann
Saturday, July 27, 2019, 1:15 p.m.
Sainte-Cécile Church, Petite-Rivière-de-l’Île
Following the success of the "Grandiose Telemann" concert, which has been sold out for more than a month, the Festival offers music lovers the opportunity to attend the dress rehearsal of the concert. This is a great opportunity to witness the musicians prepare the final concert of the Festival. The public rehearsal will be preceded by a conference on the life and work of Georg Philipp Telemann given by conductor and bassoonist Mathieu Lussier.

FOUR CONCERTS IN PETITE-RIVIÈRE-DE-L’ÎLE AND MISCOU
In addition to the two events and two rounds of the Mathieu Duguay Early Music Competition, four concerts will be presented at Sainte-Cécile Church in Petite-Rivière-de-l'Île and at Saint-Antoine-de-Padoue Church in Miscou.

"Vivaldi: the limits of virtuosity"
Thursday, July 25, 2019, 7:30 p.m.
Sainte-Cécile Church, Petite-Rivière-de-l'Île
This first major evening concert will explore the vocal and instrumental works by Antonio Vivaldi. On the program: opera arias and concertos for recorder and bassoon in which the performers must demonstrate an extraordinary virtuosity.

 "Secret Muses"

Saint-Antoine-de-Padoue Church, Miscou
The artists of this concert are inspired by the "Concerto delle donne”, a group of three professional female singers at the court of Duke Alfonso II in Ferrara, Italy, at the end of the Renaissance. 

"From Bach to Haydn: Carte blanche To Francesco Corti"

Saint-Antoine-de-Padoue Church, Miscou
For this concert, Italian harpsichordist Francesco Corti, winner of numerous prizes in international competitions and one of the most prominent musicians on the European scene, presents a recital of works for solo harpsichord.

The Mission Saint-Charles Choir and Orchestra, under the direction of Mathieu Lussier, join forces to pay tribute to the creative genius of Georg Philipp Telemann.
